Designing business: Online marketplace for architects Arsitag raises seed funding

2016-03-14

Arsitag claimed that only 10 to 15 per cent of home construction projects were conducted by architects

Indonesian online marketplace for architects and interior designers Arsitag announced today they have received an undisclosed seed funding from East Ventures.

Arsitag allows architects and interior designer to upload and showcase their portfolio, as well as connect with one another as well as potential clients. Clients can even search for services based on location, style, and many other deciding factors.

In 2014, Indonesians spent around US$100 billion (about 10 per cent of the nation’s GDP) for construction projects ranging from individual homes to commercial spaces. However, Arsitag claimed that only 10 to 15 per cent of home construction projects were conducted by architects. Many of them are conducted by contractors with sufficient technical knowledge but questionable taste in design.

Even for projects that are run by architects, many of them are introduced to clients via word-of-mouth with no guarantee for the quality of its service, a pain-point which the startup aims to address.

“In the future, Arsitag will introduce a data analytic feature that can help professionals streamline its sales and marketing effort. We wish to help them focus on what matters most – design,” said COO Steven Gomedi.

Arsitag was founded by three friends – Gomedi, Edward Harjanto, and Michael Gani – who met during college days in San Francisco, US. Gani was an engineer at Apple, Harjanto was a consultant at Boston Consulting Group, while Gomedi had previously started his own business.

The startup targets Indonesia’s 15,000 architects and 3,000 interior designers.
