The Cyber Security Elephant in the Room - Protecting Small Businesses

WASHINGTON, DC / ACCESSWIRE / December 28, 2016 / What do Target, Home Depot, the Office of Personnel Management, and many others, have in common? Their catastrophic breaches were all the result of a lack of security at a small business vendor that had been previously deemed as low/medium risk. This glaring hole in security has consistently been downplayed because no one had a good answer. Enter Truvincio, that not only makes cost-effective security a reality for small businesses and provides a defensible answer for the Fortune 1000 as to what they are doing about their 3rd parties.

Addressing Small Business Security

The Fortune 1000 can't survive without small businesses, so unless small businesses can find a way to become secure, the risk to the Fortune 1000 will not get better. And small businesses can't and aren't willing to afford the type of solutions that the Fortune 1000 implement. The solution must create good security, be defensible in court and in the court of public opinion and be as inexpensive and non-business disruptive as possible. Truvincio's SaaS solution helps businesses create and implement effective security programs, which according to Ponemon Institute can reduce the damage of a breach by up to 50%.

Creating 'Adequate Oversight' for the Fortune 1000

When Target tried to redirect the lawsuits to the 3rd party following the breach, the court ruled that Target had not done enough to ensure that the 3rd party had adequate security in place. And while oversight of high-risk third parties has been well established, until Truvincio, there has not been a defensible answer for what this looks like. Truvincio's dynamic dashboard allows large enterprises to see in realtime whether their low/medium risk 3rd parties are implementing reasonable security.

Creating A New Direction

In the words of Steven Chabinsky, a member of the Presidential Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity and the global chair of the data, privacy and cybersecurity practice for White & Chase "What we've been doing over the past 15-20 years simply isn't working, and the problem isn't going to be fixed simply by adding more money."

Poised to implement with its first enterprise clients, Truvincio is positioned to be a strong component of the new paradigm. Using the leverage of the Fortune 1000 to make small businesses act is the only way to move the market and improve the overall security posture of the nation.
