Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has given the clearest indication yet that he has no plans to retire at the end of the season.

The 73-year-old’s contract at Crystal Palace expires in the summer and many have suggested he could call time on his 45-year managerial career.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, his opposite number tonight and the youngest manager in the Premier League, this week said management is a “difficult drug to take out of your system”.

Asked about that comment, Hodgson has suggested to wants to continue beyond this season.

“I guess to still be here after so many years would prove his point with a vengeance,” said Hodgson. “If it was a drug you could get out of your system then perhaps I would have done so long ago. But it is a good drug and one we have all chosen to take because we love the game so much.

“You are very fortunate if you are able to do it for as long as I have been able to do it. It is not going to be easy for the younger managers coming through because the pressures do not get an easier.

“I have been privileged to have been in it as long as I have been and I am still enjoying it. And I am hoping it will continue for some time to come.”
