The Conjuring 3 stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson have hinted that fans of the franchise shouldn't give up hope for more sequels.

The duo are set to return as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren for The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, adapted from a real case of alleged demonic possession in the US.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is, overall, the eighth film in the horror franchise, and while that might seem like a natural endpoint, Farmiga and Wilson have teased to Empire they could return.

"Oh my God, I'd love to [continue]," Farmiga said. "It's interesting, we have to up the fear in each one. Demonology is already so high-pitched and operatic."

Wilson also seemed excited about the possibility of The Conjuring 4: "We constantly want to push these characters. I would like to – for no other reason than I would want to keep playing opposite Vera."

It turns out that there's more to the potential for another sequel than just willingness from Farmiga and Wilson to return as the Warrens.

"There's definitely some talk of continuing," Farmiga has hinted.

In the latest film The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, the filmmakers have dramatised the real-life 1981 murder trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson.

Ed and Lorraine Warren are called in to offer their expertise when, for the first time in American judicial history, a defendant in a murder trial uses demonic possession as a defence.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will be released in UK cinemas on May 28, 2021 and then comes to the US on HBO Max on June 4, 2021.
