Riders Share - Like AirBNB for Motorcycles

Riders Share - Like AirBNB for Motorcycles

An outfit called Riders Share has opened a peer-to-peer motorcycle rental program in the Southern California area

(Hey friends, we've updated this article to reflect some changes in Riders Share's policies—specifically the company's new insurance policy that puts the liability squarely on either the renter or, in some cases, RidersShare itself -JM)

Based in Orange County, California, Riders Share offers a listing of individually-owned bikes for rent, and a way to post your own motorcycle for daily or weekly rental. While most metropolitan areas now offer bike rentals—usually through dealerships—the community sharing concept seems to be gaining traction.

The company website includes the following guidelines for prospective renters:

PEER TO PEER: Twisted Road Wants to Disrupt the Motorcycle Rental Biz

  • You must upload at least one photo of the equipment. The more the better!

  • You must provide the license plate number, make, model, year, and a description of the equipment.

  • You must provide additional requirements for proper operation (i.e. needs premium fuel).

  • Renters are responsible for insurance on any bike they rent through Riders Share. If renters decline protection they are liable for all damage caused during the rental. Owners are fully covered by Riders Share as long as they adhere to the company's policies. Riders Share offers an insurance policy for renters backed by Lloyds of London with the following terms $1,000 deductible for damage/theft with coverage of up to $15,000$2,500 deductible for third party liability with limits of $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident and $300,000 aggregate. The deductible is paid by the renter; barring that, by Riders Share. Owners should never have to pay for it.
