Should You Take Comfort From Insider Transactions At RediShred Capital Corp. (CVE:KUT)?

We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in RediShred Capital Corp. (CVE:KUT).

What Is Insider Buying?

It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise'.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At RediShred Capital

The Independent Director James Lawley made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for CA$106k worth of shares at a price of CA$0.71 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of CA$0.74. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. The good news for RediShred Capital share holders is that an insider was buying at near the current price. James Lawley was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

Does RediShred Capital Boast High Insider Ownership?

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that RediShred Capital insiders own 34% of the company, worth about CA$20m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At RediShred Capital Tell Us?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. Given that insiders also own a fair bit of RediShred Capital we think they are probably pretty confident of a bright future.
