The College Football Playoff is set and Washington and Ohio State are in

The College Football Playoff field is set and at the end of the day there were no surprises as both Ohio State and Washington made the four-team field.

Here are the four teams in the playoff and their seeds.

As expected, both Washington and Clemson are in the playoff thanks to wins in their conference championship games this weekend. Ohio State was widely viewed as a lock after beating Michigan in their regular-season finale, despite not making the Big Ten championship game and despite their head-to-head loss to Penn State.

Ohio State does drop to No. 3 in the final ranking. However, that move is largely meaningless as Clemson and Ohio State would have faced each other whether they were ranked 2-3 or 3-2.

The one interesting revelation in the final ranking is the placement of Penn State at No. 5. This suggests that if Washington or Clemson had lost, it would have been Penn State in the playoff and not Michigan. There was speculation that Michigan would have received the nod for being ranked higher last week and seemingly have a large gap between themselves and the other Big Ten teams, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Alabama and Washington will play in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia. Clemson and Ohio State will face off in the Fiesta Bowl. Both games are on New Year's Eve.
