Fog advisory ends for Toronto

A fog advisory has been lifted for Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, and Durham.

Toronto Pearson airport was "operating under reduced visibility for safety reasons" from 1:30 p.m. to 2:50 p.m., said a spokeswoman, but has returned to regular operations. Still, the airport is advising passengers to check their flight status through their airline.

A number of flights were also delayed or cancelled at Billy Bishop City Centre Airport in downtown Toronto.

"We've got high humidity right now, and the temperature and the dew point are the same," explained CBC Toronto meteorologist Jay Scotland.

Those conditions are perfect for creating mist and fog, said Scotland, "much the same as a cloud forms in the sky."

Environment Canada said it received reports of visibility as low as 100 metres, and warns that visibility could be "suddenly reduced to near zero."
