Chrissy Teigen Defends Her New Horseback Riding Hobby: ‘I Have Nothing I Do for Just Me’

Chrissy Teigen is in the hot seat for her latest hobby – horseback riding.

The Cravings cookbook author, 35, was criticized for saying she has "absolutely nothing" that she does just for herself after sharing that she is embarking "into the horse world" as a new hobby.

Some fans accused Teigen of being insensitive for starting an expensive hobby while "people are unemployed and struggling" amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The model explained on Twitter Monday that she took on the activity as a coping mechanism, per the recommendation of her therapist, as she continues to grieve the loss of her son Jack in September.

"My therapist says I need something that I do just for me, as I have absolutely nothing currently lol," Teigen wrote on Twitter Sunday along with a photo of a horse. "Today begins my journey into the horse world."

One fan tweeted in response, "A lot of people are unemployed and struggling to feed their family in the midst of a pandemic. Maybe now isn't a great time to say you 'have nothing' so you bought a horse to entertain yourself."

Teigen said in a later tweet that she had been "misinterpreted."

"a lot of u really misinterpreted this tweet and I guess that's on me," she wrote. "I didn't say I have nothing, I said I have nothing I do for just me. A convo with a therapist. A hobby. Cause I lost a baby. And I'm figuring myself out."

She added, "And i didn't buy a horse. But oh my god, what if I did?"

"why are you guys reading into this so much? the boredom," Teigen added in another tweet in response to the criticism.

In another tweet, Teigen said that she does "understand" why some might have reacted badly to her initial tweet, but pointed out, "it's my Twitter. I'm talking about me?"

Chrissy Teigen lost her son — whom she and her husband John Legend named Jack — after 20 weeks of pregnancy in September

Teigen began her foray into horseback riding on Sunday along with her husband John Legend and their two children, Luna Simone, 4, and Miles Theodore, 2.

She shared several videos over the weekend of herself preparing for the adventure, including breaking in her riding uniform.

"Holy s---. horse people: the boots! I always thought breaking in boots meant the foot part but does it mean the calf part because I'm dying over here," she previously shared on Twitter with a video of herself struggling with the riding shoes.

The Chrissy's Court star has been doing several activities with Luna and Miles to honor the loss of Jack.
