Charts of the day: Valeant shares jump, Chipotle climbs on sales trend

Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX) and Chipotle (CMG) are Yahoo Finance’s two charts of the day.

Valeant shares are jumping after reaching an agreement to sell three of its skincare brands to L’Oreal. The deal is worth $1.3 billion. The news comes shortly after Valeant announced it would sell its Dendreon Pharmaceuticals unit to Chinese conglomerate Sanpower Group for approximately $820 million.

The two deals mark headway into CEO Joseph Papa’s plan to slim down the company and focus its efforts on key franchises. As of Monday’s close, Valeant’s shares have plunged 94% from their peak level in 2015.

The second chart of the day is Chipotle. The fast-casual restaurant chain announced that its sales are improving. Same-store sales fell 1.4% in November and increased 14.7% in December. Chipotle’s board also authorized a new $100 million share repurchase program.

The news is giving Chipotle’s stock a boost in intraday trading, but shares are still down more than 45% since their peak level in 2015 when an E. coli outbreak sent shares plunging.
