There’s a change in gas prices in Miami and Florida. Where’s the cheapest place to pump?

Miami Herald File

After an upward trend, gas prices have dipped this week in Florida.

The 5.1-cent decrease brought down the average price in the Miami area to $3.54 a gallon, according to fuel monitoring service GasBuddy, which surveyed 1,690 stations in Miami-Dade County. For perspective, that’s still 22.8 cents a gallon higher than a month ago.

Across Florida, gas prices have decreased 7 cents a gallon, according to AAA.

“For the first time in 2023, the national average price of gasoline has seen a weekly decline, primarily thanks to a sharp and sudden drop in the price of oil,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

Why gas prices are decreasing

From De Haan, at GasBuddy: “While the decline in both gasoline and diesel prices is terrific, it’s not unusual to see prices falling in February, which tends to be the month with some of the lowest gasoline prices of the year thanks to seasonally weak demand.”

How to find cheap gas near you

Several apps, including GasBuddy, Waze and Gas Guru, can help find the cheapest fuel near you. You can also carpool or take public transportation if you want to avoid fueling up. Some transit options are even free.
