The channel was flooded with supportive messages from parents.

"Wonderful to have diversity on tv aimed at the next generation," one parent wrote. "As a mum of disabled children (teenagers now) this is so important to include everyone and produce acceptance of all."

"Absolutely brilliant addition," another added. "George you have made me smile with your presenting skills and enthusiasm. Kids and adults will love you. Wishing you every success."

A third wrote: "So glad that more children now have someone to relate to, seeing people just like them in a cool and important job will open doors and minds for children everywhere.

"There is so much power & beauty in being different. What a brilliant moment."

CBeebies later thanked everyone for their messages, writing: "'CBeebies' and 'Congratulations George' are currently trending in the UK thanks to all your lovely comments welcoming George to the CBeebies House.

"Have you spotted him on telly yet?"

They later added: "This just in from our NEW CBeebies House presenter in response to all your lovely comments!
