Calls growing for Hudson’s Bay to ditch Ivanka Trump’s brand
After U.S. retailer Nordstrom decided to pull Ivanka Trump products from its shelves – even though it was for “performance” reasons – calls have been growing north of the border for the Hudson’s Bay to follow suit.
Canadians have voiced their displeasure with the department store chain for carrying the daughter of the U.S. president’s brand by using the hashtag #baycott on Twitter.

.@hudsonsbay #baycott #GrabYourWallet never will buy from you as long as you carry @IvankaTrump merch.

On its website, the Bay lists a number of products sold under Trump’s brand, including an assortment of jewelry, clothing and footwear.
In a statement sent to the Toronto Star on Tuesday, the Canadian company did not address whether it was considering cutting ties with the fashion line.
“Across our banners, we aim to deliver a strong assortment of fashion. We respect our customers’ right to choose the brands that work for them,” said Brigitte Timmins, corporation communications manager for the Bay.
“In turn, our customers’ choices inform our decisions on which merchandise we offer.
In October, digital strategist Shannon Coulter created the #GrabYourWallet campaign to encourage consumers to avoid brands linked to Donald Trump and his family.
Her list of retailers to boycott has since grown and shrunk, as some retailers dropped the controversial products, but it now includes more than 60 companies.
In response to Nordstrom’s move, the U.S. president lashed out at the retailer on Twitter Wednesday.
My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!
