You Can Buy Chris Farley’s Dodge Viper
The first generation Dodge Viper RT/10 is one of the more storied American cars of the modern era, and one that has a reputation for being a bit of a handful. This particular 1995 example, offered for sale by way of Bring a Trailer, was previously owned by the cousin of Ford’s CEO. You might know that former owner better as comedian, actor, and Saturday Night Live cast member Chris Farley.
According to the BaT listing, Farley acquired this first-generation Viper in August of 1997, just a few months before he passed away at the age of 33 in December of that year. Farley would be seen in public with the car during his ownership, with images of the pair even making their way into an article that comes included with the sale. The car has lived a relatively spoiled life since the late nineties, having covered a mere 11,000 miles since new. Of course part of that mileage might come down to the reputation that these cars have for being difficult to manage. This particular car has a set of 335-section Michelin Pilot Sports out back however, so I wouldn’t worry too much about traction issues. It is also worth noting that this 1995 example does not come equipped with an anti-lock brake system.
The car presents well, with the black paint looking rather nice in these auction photos. The stock 17-inch tri-spoke wheels still look to be in good shape. The interior doesn’t show too much wear or tear, though there aren’t a lot of amenities inside an early Viper. Under the long hood sits an 8.0-liter V-10, which comes rated at 400 hp. A Tremec T-56 six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential round out the performance hardware.
Should you win the auction, you’ll also take home some of the literature from the car, including Farley’s purchase agreement and signed title of ownership. Dodge sold just over 6700 Vipers during the first generation run, ensuring their collector status for the time being. This would be a great car for the diehard Viper collector, or someone who just so happens to really love Tommy Callahan.
