Bugsnag Recognized as 2021 Bay Area Best Places to Work

·3 min read

Bugsnag, recently acquired by SmartBear, has been recognized as a winner of the 2021 Bay Area Best Places to Work, an awards program presented by the San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley Business Journal. Out of the 450 companies that applied for these awards, only 125 were selected for this honor.

Select employers from the Bay Area were named winners of the award on May 7th, 2021. These winning organizations are being honored for having created exceptional workplaces that their employees value highly.

Award applicants were evaluated and ranked across five categories according to the number of Bay Area employees. The ranking found companies in the region whose employees rate them as the highest on such values as fun, collaborative culture, solid compensation and benefits offerings and other amenities as well as management practices. Bugsnag was ranked sixth out of 25 companies in the Small Biz (50-99 employees) category.

"It’s such an honor to be recognized as a great place to work and we are proud to have maintained our positive workplace culture throughout the challenges of the pandemic," said James Smith, SVP of the Bugsnag Product Group at SmartBear. "We prioritize empathy first when it comes to our coworkers and communities. The Bugsnag leadership team also shows through action that family, health and mental well-being come first and are essential for a great working environment."

Bugsnag values every team member and goes out of its way to ensure employee satisfaction. Some current benefits include:

  • Monthly Care Packages: To support the wellbeing of its staff members during the pandemic, Bugsnag ships snack boxes and organic fruit boxes to all employees on a monthly basis.

  • Food Stipend: Employees received a daily lunch allowance before the pandemic which was converted to a weekly allowance, including groceries, once the team transitioned to full remote work.

  • Regular Virtual Outings: Bugsnag hosts company-wide outings such as virtual shibori dyeing, escape rooms, and watercolor painting. There are also department-level virtual outings.

  • Donut Chats: To ensure connection during the pandemic, Bugsnag leadership and the rest of the company hold non-work-related Donuts (slack plugin for huddles) every few weeks in groups of three with employees they don’t normally work with.

  • Alternative Communication Options to Avoid Burnout and Zoom Fatigue: To prevent Zoom fatigue, Bugsnag encourages employees to talk on the phone instead and recommends taking calls while walking outside to get fresh air.
