Buccaneers to wear white jerseys at Super Bowl LV, Chiefs will wear red

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be the home team at Super Bowl LV in their city, but they won’t be wearing their usual home colors.

The Bucs will take the field on Feb. 7 wearing their white jerseys and pewter pants, while the Kansas City Chiefs will be wearing their usual red jerseys, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

According to ESPN’s Sara Walsh, the Buccaneers had first pick of uniforms, so the white uniforms would have been their choice.

The Super Bowl will mark the fifth straight game the Chiefs have worn their red uniforms, having held home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs and finished their season with two home games. Of the Chiefs’ six losses over the past two seasons, all but one have been in the red uniforms (and at home).

The Buccaneers have worn white for their past two games, road wins over the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers. They wore white jerseys in three of their eight regular-season games at Raymond James Stadium this season, the latest being Oct. 18.

Overall, the Buccaneers are 7-2 in their white uniforms this season, with their last loss all the way back on Oct. 8 against the Chicago Bears.

The uniform colors were reversed when these two teams met in the regular season in Tampa Bay, a 27-24 Chiefs win. The Chiefs wore white, while the Buccaneers wore their red jerseys and pewter pants.

This is also reportedly the first time the two teams in the Super Bowl have used the exact same primary color.
