Bruker To Buy Freiberg Instruments' Magnettech EPR Business

Bruker Corportion BRKR recently announced plans to acquire Magnettech electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) business from Freiberg Instruments GmbH. It has also announced a long-term EPR supply collaboration with Freiberg Instruments, which is known for developing and manufacturing the MiniScope MS 5000 EPR products.

The acquisition is expected to boost the company’s BioSpin business segment by complementing its existing range of EPR offerings.

More on the Acquisition

Magnettech's benchtop EPR system, the MiniScope MS 5000, and a broad range of Magnettech EPR accessories are likely to strengthen Bruker's existing EPR portfolio. Post integration, Bruker's EPR product line will comprise compact micro-EPR systems and state-of-the-art research-grade benchtop EPR systems. The product line will also constitute of a wide range of floor-standing research EPR systems that can be used in several EPR molecular and materials research applications.

Bruker has also forged a long-term EPR supply deal with Freiberg Instruments. Through this, Bruker plans to continue collaborating with some of Magnettech's key channel partners, especially Aerial, which caters to the crucial market of radiation processing and dosimetry.

Financial details of the acquisition have been kept under wraps.

Market Prospects

Per Wheel Chronicle, the global EPR Spectroscopy market is seeing a steady CAGR, and is expected to reach a sizeable worth by 2025. Hence, the latest acquisition by Bruker is a well-timed one.

Recent Developments

Lately, Bruker has been investing in a few crucial developments to strengthen itsBioSpin segment.

In August 2019, Bruker released the world's first-ever 1.2 GHz high-resolution, protein nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data. The new 1.2 GHz system is a pathbreaking innovation that will aid new molecular and cell biology discoveries. This launch is expected to boost Bruker’s BioSpin segment.

Other Companies Developing EPR

In this regard, EPR and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) spectroscopy are used widely in different genres of science for the diagnosis and identification of free radicals and paramagnetic centers such as F-centers.

Currently, Bio-Rad Laboratories BIO is actively working on ESR Spectroscopy. PerkinElmer PKI and Agilent Technologies A are other major players in this field.
