The British and Irish Lions board will meet on Friday as they frantically work to find a solution to this year’s tour of South Africa.

The Lions are due to be heading to South Africa this summer, but the Covid-19 pandemic means fans face being unable to travel and games behind closed doors are not financially viable.

Other options are now being considered, such as a ‘home’ tour that would see South Africa travel to the UK and Ireland.

Such a solution would allow supporters to attend matches, but requires the support of the Government to underwrite any possible losses that the Lions may incur due to Covid-19.

Australia have also offered to host the Lions and South Africa, and they can offer the prospect of full stadiums.

The Lions could also look to postpone the tour by a year and that option, along with the others, is due to be discussed on Friday.
