'The Breakfast Club' is not officially over, but Angela Yee is making a change: What we know

"The Breakfast Club" on iHeartRadio is going through a big change.

Co-host Angela Yee tweeted Tuesday night that the radio show "as you know it is officially over."

During Wednesday's show, Yee clarified that she is leaving the show, but co-hosts Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy will continue on without her. Yee will instead focus on her own show on the radio network, she said, calling it a "tremendous opportunity."

"As far as having a nationally syndicated show as somebody in my position — a woman, a Black woman up here … it's a rarity and it's a great opportunity and it's not something I take lightly."

Charlamagne and DJ Envy both expressed their congratulations to Yee.

What is 'The Breakfast Club' show?

The radio show launched in 2010 with Yee, Charlamagne and DJ Envy. The trio, based in New York City, reports Monday through Saturday on the latest in hip hop and surrounding culture, starting at 6 am ET.

During the show, Yee has her segment "Rumor Report" where they discuss the latest scandals happening amongst celebrities. Charlamagne and DJ Envy tag team on "Donkey of the Day," a title they assign a person or group who had a major mishap.

Who is the cast of 'The Breakfast Club?'

Radio personalities Yee, Charlamagne and DJ Envy host the popular show. It's unclear if a host will replace Yee going forward.

Yee isn't new to hosting her own show. The Brooklyn, New York City native previously hosted "The Morning After with Angela Yee" on Eminem's radio station Shade 45 along with her podcast "Lip Service."

DJ Envy, born RaaShaun Casey, is a Queens, New York City native producer. The artist has been spinning records on radio since the early 2000s, having hosted "The People's Mix," "The People's Choice Hit List" and more.

Wendy Williams fans were first introduced to Charlamagne, born Lenard Larry McKelvey, in 2006 when he was her second mic on her brief VH1 show "The Wendy Williams Experience." He ventured off, appearing as a cast member on MTV's "Guy Code" and hosting MTV2 show "Charlamagne & Friends." In addition to "The Breakfast Club," the radio personality currently hosts "Hell of a Week with Charlamagne tha God" on Comedy Central.

In August 2020, the group was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. On the website, "The Breakfast Club" was dubbed the "most-listened-to Hip-Hop and R&B morning show in America."

"Love us or hate us, don't act like this show hasn't impacted society in some way shape or form," Charlamagne said following the induction ceremony. "We would not be here if it wasn't for y'all."

When will Angela Yee's new show begin? What happens to "Lip Service?'

During Wednesday's show, Yee shared that she will remain on "The Breakfast Club" until her new show begins.

iHeart confirmed that the show, titled "Way Up with Angela Yee," will launch this fall in a press release. Instead of being on in the mornings, the weekday program will air middays on iHeartMedia stations, including New York’s Power 105.1.

Yee's new show will cover "hot and timely topics in which she’s garnered trust over her decades on air -- from relationships to Hip-Hop and R&B, headline news topics, and overall culture, both in and out of the music industry." There will also be celebrity interviews.

"Way Up with Angela Yee" is also not replacing her podcast "Lip Service," she revealed on "The Breakfast Club." Yee will continue to host the podcast along with co-hosts Stephanie Santiago and Gigi Maguire.

What celebrities have "Breakfast Club' hosts interviewed?

"The Breakfast Club" has hosted iconic interviews over the years with artists like Ye (formerly Kanye West), Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, JAY-Z, Diddy, Cardi B, and more. They've also interviewed politicians from former President Barack Obama to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
