Hot NSW hotel named world's best
A small hotel in northern NSW has been voted the world’s best boutique property in hotel booking website Mr & Mrs Smith’s annual awards.
Halcyon House at Cabarita Beach, about an hour’s drive south of Brisbane, received more than 25,000 votes to win Best Smith Hotel out of the 1,000 properties listed on the luxury accommodation website from all around the world.

The 21-room former surfer’s motel only opened last year and has already earned a lot of accolades, including a spot on Conde Nast Traveler’s Best New Hotels in the World 2016 list, not to mention clocking up more than 75,000 followers on Instagram.
Guests fall for the ridiculously cool interior designed in a refreshing blue and white colour scheme, the stylish pool lined with comfortable daybeds, the professional service and on-site restaurant Paper Daisy, run by award-winning, ex-Noma chef Ben Devlin, which serves up a sophisticated menu dominated by fresh seafood and mostly locally-sourced ingredients.
Halcyon House also has the small details down pat. Guests receive a scoop of icecream on arrival, complimentary breakfast is served in-room and the mini-bar is also on the house; so there’s no nasty surprise at check-out when you realise those artisan chocolates you scoffed late at night in your room after a few drinks cost $30.
Want to check in? It might have to be a special occasion, because Halcyon House’s nightly rate starts at $550 for a King suite. But can you even put a price on making all your Facebook friends and Instagram followers mad with jealousy?
Another Australian property was recognised in the Mr & Mrs Smith awards – Sydney’s Old Clare Hotel won the Best Gourmet Getaway category thanks to its two on-site restaurants.
