Bob Saget Defends Candace Cameron Bure After She Was Called ‘Fake’
  • Candace Cameron Bure is speaking out about being called “fake” just because she’s an overall happy person.

  • She asked her Full House co-star Bob Saget to weigh in on his podcast.

  • “You’re the opposite of fake,” he said.

Candace Cameron Bure is not one to shy away from defending herself. And this time around, instead of standing up for that 2020 family Christmas card or addressing backlash over what some deemed an inappropriate photo with her husband, she wants the world to know that her ‘round-the-clock positivity is genuine, despite some beliefs that it’s all a ruse.

The actress, 45, appeared on her Full House co-star Bob Saget’s podcast, Here For You on April 12, where she asked him to vouch for her real, authentic character. “I’m going to ask you to talk about me for a second,” she said. “For those people that think that because I am a happy, positive person, that I must be a fake person, would you say that that’s true or false?”

Bure thought for sure Saget would be the person to ask, considering he’s known her since she was cast on Full House as a child. And it didn’t take long for him to reply. “You’re the opposite of fake,” he said. “And I’m sorry—you’re perky sometimes. What’s wrong with being perky?”

The Hallmark Channel star couldn’t help but turn his comment into a cheeky joke. “I just hope the girls stay perky for the rest of their lives,” she laughed.

Saget, 64, also chuckled, and reassured his friend that she’s the real deal. “It’s hard—life can beat people down,” he said. “Also, you’re very fortunate. You’ve had a lot of things happen, but you also work really hard.”

Bure thanked him, admitting that it’s sometimes hard not to let the negative social media comments get to her. “Thank you,” she said. “I only ask that because sometimes you read comments, and most of them, they roll off my back. But when people are annoyed at me that I’m such a happy person ... I was like, let someone speak into this that’s known me since I was 9 years old.”

Saget claimed that his on-screen daughter is indeed, naturally upbeat, although sometimes, it’s because she’s had too much coffee. “You’re a positive person. So if you’re perky, it’s because you’re excited, and/or you’ve had a lot of caffeine. That’s what people should know—there’s nothing fake about you,” he said. But he did admit that sometimes, that attitude can be a little much to handle—especially in the work environment.

“You have strong convictions. In fact, sometimes to a fault,” he revealed. “You can be a tough customer sometimes ‘cause you are like, ‘Can we just get this done?’”

So in this case, there could be too much of a good thing. But at least he was honest.
