Yahoo Finance Bernie Sanders' Meme-Famous Inauguration Jacket Is Proof You Only Need One Good Coat
Bernie Sanders it back at it again. The junior Senator from Vermont showed up to Kamala Harris and Joe Biden's inauguration in a now-signature jacket from Burton, the snowboarding company based in Burlington and a longtime supporter of the politician. (And the tweets, dear reader, did not disappoint.)
For eagle-eyed fans of the famously irascible Senator, the coat probably looks a little familiar. Because, as it turns out, it's the same one he wore in the endlessly memeable campaign video he released earlier last year. Sadly, the jacket itself is long since sold out in most color ways, but there's a whole heap of similar options available via the Burton site if you're looking to jack a little of Bernie's old-man swag.
The firebrand progressive also rocked a standout pair of knitted mittens, courtesy of Jen Ellis, a teacher from Essex Junction, Vermont, who gifted them to the Senator a couple of years ago. (Per Ellis' Twitter, the mittens are made out of repurposed wool sweaters and lined with fleece made from recycled plastic bottles.)
We weren't expecting the viral style moment from today's festivities to involve a famously style-agnostic septuagenarian, but now that we're here it only seems right. Because the buy local and buy less movements are bona fide Things, and it seems Bernie Sanders has taken those credos to heart in a very on-brand move we love to see. This winter, you could do a lot worse than following his lead.
