Dave Friday proposes to his girlfriend on Great British Bake Off spin off An Extra Slice

(Channel 4/The Great British Bake Of: An Extra slice)

The Great British Bake Off runner-up Dave Friday has proposed to his girlfriend on spin-off An Extra Slice.

The 30-year-old security guard from Hampshire got down on one knee during the Channel 4 show, saying: “Stacey Valentine I love you from the bottom of my heart and will you marry me?”

She initially responded, “Oh God, I actually thought you were going to say a joke,” before saying yes.

Friday narrowly missed out on becoming Bake Off champion during Tuesday’s final, with 20-year-old accounting and finance student Peter Sawkins taking the crown.

Meanwhile Sawkins, a finance student from Edinburgh, said he planned to continue his studies alongside his baking.

The 20-year-old, nick-named the "baby-faced assassin" by host Noel Fielding, is also the youngest ever and first Scottish winner of the show.

He said he watched Tuesday's pre-recorded final with his flatmates in Edinburgh, two of whom did not know he had won.

Peter celebrated the broadcast by baking a chocolate cake, which he shared with his flatmates when they all sat down to watch the final episode.
