Awkward! Regé-Jean Page says family was 'overwhelmed' by his 'backside' during 'Bridgerton' sex scenes

"Bridgerton" episode 6 needs no explanation.

But for viewers who haven't tuned into the hit Netflix period romance, newlyweds Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) consummated their marriage, a lot, during their honeymoon at Clyvedon.

"I just died at the sex scenes in Bridgerton, episode 6. I was gonna watch this with my mum once lockdown is over, but I’ve since decided against that," @saragillx tweeted in January.

Imagine how Page's family felt.

Page, who announced he won't return as Simon in Season 2, revealed that his loved ones were "overwhelmed" by all of his steamier scenes.

"No one was sufficiently prepared. I wasn’t sufficiently prepared, and I was there," Page said during the Hollywood Reporter's Drama Actor Roundtable Wednesday.

Bad news for 'Bridgerton' fans: Regé-Jean Page will not return as Simon Basset in Season 2

Although Page said "people were grateful for the intensity of the romantic aspects of 'Bridgerton,'" the British actor is "not sure how grateful I was to watch it for myself."

"It was overwhelming. But I think people were looking to be overwhelmed," he said. "My family doesn’t want to be overwhelmed by my backside, specifically, too often, but they’ll take it on this occasion because everyone seems to be terribly happy."

Dynevor had a similar experience. The actress told the Daily Star in January that she skipped over her sex scenes entirely while watching with her family.

"I watched the show with the whole family, even the grandparents managed to watch it," Dynevor said. "I had to sit there and fast forward on high alert with the remote control. We managed it just about."

A message from Lady Whistledown: Netflix orders Seasons 3 and 4 of hit series 'Bridgerton'

In January, director Julie Anne Robinson told Deadline that Page and Dynevor worked with intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot for the show's sex scenes, similar to how a stunt coordinator arranges a fight sequence.

“I felt that it was very very important for the actors to feel comfortable with these scenes, and to feel confident,” Robinson told the outlet. "And also there is so much learning in terms of consume that we had to do in terms what to take off when and where."
