A Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) insider lowered their holding by 100% earlier this year

From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Autodesk, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:ADSK ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Autodesk Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Rebecca Pearce, sold US$334k worth of shares at a price of US$208 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$199. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign. Rebecca Pearce was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership Of Autodesk

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that Autodesk insiders own 0.1% of the company, worth about US$49m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
