Audi Q7 Gets New, Faster, Efficient 4-cylinder Turbo Engine for 2017

Volkswagen Group’s premium Audi brand this week said the 2017 Audi Q7 midsize luxury SUV will be available with its new turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder TFSI (turbocharged fuel-stratified injection) engine. The automaker claims the new engine is faster, more efficient, and 500 lbs. lighter than the previous-generation 3.0-liter V-6 that powered the 2015 Q7. The new SUV model with the more fuel-efficient powertrain option will go on sale early next year, the company said.

The German premium brand’s second-generation 2017 Q7, which comes standard with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive (AWD) and can seat as many as 7 passengers, will be 22% more fuel efficient with the new TFSI engine, which the EPA estimates will average 22 mpg in combined city and highway driving.

Acceleration should be no problem, as the A7 equipped with the new TFSI engine—mated with an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission—can move out from 0-60 mph a full half second faster than the previous model’s V-6, Audi claims. Power is optimal with the new engine producing 252 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque to capably pull as much as 4,400 lbs. with an optional towing package.

The redesigned engine features enhancements including an integrated exhaust manifold and improvements in the valvelift system, plus innovative temperature management to help reduce fuel consumption, according to Audi.
