Apollo Edition Ford Mustang Fetches $230,000 At Auction

Motor Authority

Anytime a limited-edition machine is offered up to a charity auction, the car and the manufacturer or builders get a bit of spotlight, wealthy bidders get to toss around buckets of cash, and a worthwhile cause gets money that it will put to good use. I guess you could call that a win-win-win, as the sage prophet Michael Scott would be want to do.

It's no different with the recently announced and revealed Apollo Edition Ford Mustang. The car was created for the AirVenture festival in Wisconsin, and it was then sent across the auction block.

It sold to the tune of $230,000.

That's great news, especially when you consider that all of the proceeds will go to the Experimental Aircraft Association. This cash will be used to help fund the groups Youth Aviation program, which assists young folks in becoming pilots. A fitting move then for a car created to pay homage to the Apollo Program.

The car has a number of bits and pieces that clearly serve as a note to the historic work of those in the Apollo missions. Additionally, it touches on the fact that these brave men were ready to hop on a fast ride into the unknown. Under the hood, the 5.0-liter engine has been boosted by a supercharger, so it now produces 627 horsepower and 540 pound-feet of torque.

Whoever ponied up the $230,000 it took to get the keys won't be simply donating to a good cause... they're also putting one hell of an eager pony in their garage.
