Antonio Marras Pre-Fall 2021

A walk-through with Antonio Marras is not just a business appointment. Every season it’s like entering a new world, full of art, color and passion.

For pre-fall, the designer imagined a countryside romance, in which the protagonist is a multifaceted woman who looks a bit dramatic like Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary, determined as Elizabeth Strout’s “Olive Kitteridge” and naif like Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.”

This eclectic individual enjoys the pleasure of the domestic life in her cottage, where she decorates sweaters with stitched patches crafted from fabric remnants and enriches cardigans with elements inspired by the fall flowers and leaves she finds in her garden. She manipulates cotton T-shirts by adding rich jacquard inserts and when she takes a walk in the woods she wears patchwork cargo pants and wraps blanket-like tartan shawls around her shoulders.

This mysterious lady, who feels like Marras’ female alter ego, likes to stay comfortable in velvet pajama pants but can’t renounce the timeless elegance of embroidered bouclé coats and maxidresses enriched with lace details.

She must be a great forager if in the intimacy of her house she can also paint white shirts with the dramatic, nostalgic and intense portraits that Marras used to draw. Impressive for a neophyte to the fashion industry — or maybe she got a little help from her friend Antonio.
