Android 7.0 Nougat: Samsung Experience Is The New TouchWiz In Latest Galaxy S7 Beta

The next iteration of Samsung’s flagship smartphone is expected to launch at MWC 2017.

Samsung has rolled out the third Android 7.0 Nougat beta for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge and the most striking update is the change in name of manufacturer’s user interface. What was once known as TouchWiz is now called Samsung Experience. Users who have updated to the new beta have shared screenshots of the change.

Samsung has made several efforts to evolve its custom Android interface since the release of the Galaxy S6 in 2014. The manufacturer has moved from a bright and colorful look with Samsung equivalents to many apps and features already offered on the software by Google, to a more minimalist feel with light blue and white coloring. Pundits have noted that Samsung has shied away from using the “Grace UX” moniker it developed for its Galaxy Note 7 interface.

The latest Android 7.0 beta build is NRD90M and also includes new software such as Samsung Pass (for iris scanning) and Samsung Note. The update adds a auto brightness button to the Quick Panel and moves the "Close All” button below the recents panel. The beta software also includes Google’s security update for December.

The Android 7.0 Nougat third beta is 528MB in size and will hit handsets wirelessly if users are registered for the Samsung beta program.

Samsung is expected to begin rolling out official Android 7.0 Nougat software sometime in December. Unlocked handsets will likely update first, while carrier models may not see Nougat until early to mid 2017.
