Will Anadarko Petroleum Beat 1Q16 Earnings Estimates?

Anadarko Petroleum’s 1Q16 revenue estimate

Anadarko Petroleum (APC) is expected to release its 1Q16 earnings after the Market closes on May 3, 2016. APC’s 1Q16 revenue estimate stands at ~$1.6 billion. Its revenue in 1Q15 was ~$2.7 billion.

APC’s 4Q15 revenue was $2.1 billion, which was higher than the estimate of $1.9 billion. Its Revenue in 4Q14 came in at $3.4 billion, and revenue in 3Q15 was $2.3 billion.

As we can see in the above graph, Anadarko Petroleum’s 1Q16 revenue estimate is lower than its revenue estimates for the past four quarters. However, we can also see that Anadarko Petroleum’s revenues mostly beat estimates in the past four quarters despite lower energy prices (USO) (UNG). Investors will watch to see if this trend will continue in 1Q16.

Anadarko Petroleum’s 1Q16 earnings estimates

APC’s 1Q16 loss per share estimate is ~$1.20. APC announced an adjusted loss per share of $0.57 in 4Q15. The consensus Wall Street estimate was a loss per share of $1.10. In comparison, its 4Q14 EPS (earnings per share) came in at $0.37.

Anadarko Petroleum’s peers Apache (APA) and Cimarex Energy (XEC) are expected to report losses per share of $0.84 and ~$0.37, respectively. Concho Resources (CXO) is expected to report EPS of $0.004. These companies combined make up ~3% of the iShares Global Energy ETF (IXC).

Anadarko Petroleum’s 2015 earnings and revenue

In 2015, APC reported an adjusted loss per share of $2. The comparable EPS in 2014 came in at $5.60.

APC’s 2015 revenue came in at $9.8 billion, and comparable revenue in 2014 was $16.3 billion.
