Aldi’s bed in a box is a hosting essential if you’re short on space: Here’s how to buy it

Loaf’s similar design will set you back £845, so this offering from the budget-friendly supermarket is a no-brainer

(The Independent)

You can secure just about anything in Aldi’s Specialbuys middle aisle, often at an extremely affordable price – go in for a pint of milk and leave with all manner of unexpected items.

The budget-friendly supermarket brand has recently launched a new range of camping and outdoor equipment and its famous sell-out egg chair, as well as an affordable inflatable hot tub. But that’s not all.

Owing to the success of its popular furniture and bedding – including the Insta-worthy scallop bed and affordable luxe 100 per cent silk pillowcase – Aldi has outdone itself and launched a new bed in a box that, as always, rivals many high-end brands.

If you’re planning on hosting family and friends when England (hopefully) enters the third stage of the lockdown roadmap on 17 May, the timing of the new compact bed couldn’t be better. It offers both a stylish and space-saving solution to accommodating more people in your home.

Hidden within the smart-looking grey upholstered ottoman (which measures 143cm x 72cm x 41cm) is a double mattress that we think would comfortably sleep two people. What’s more, when it’s not in use, it won’t look out of place as a footstool or chair.

Costing just £229.99, this is an affordable and competitive price for such a nifty homeware essential, with many leading brands selling similar designs for as much as £845.

As with all of Aldi’s Specialbuys, once it’s gone, it’s gone, so we’d recommend acting fast to avoid disappointment. After all, this is a hosting essential, particularly if you’re short on space.

You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

If you’re concerned about compromising on style or space in order to accommodate guests, Aldi’s bed in a box is here. At first glance, it’s likely you’d not expect this upholstered ottoman to fold out into a double bed that has a smart headboard, but it does. And when it’s not in use it looks as though it would make a comfortable seating option or chic footstool.

Featuring a buttoned design, it resembles the Loaf bed in a button (£845, Loaf.com) – which is £615 more than Aldi’s offering.

While it will go with just about any bedding, we’d opt for this All Bamboo duvet cover set in natural white (£71, Allbamboo.com) to make sure guests have a great night’s sleep. You can trust it’s a good choice since it came out best on test in our review of eco-friendly bamboo bedding, with our writer praising the silky material.
