Air New Zealand takes their latest in-flight safety video to the surf

Keeping in theme with their quirky in-flight safety videos, Air New Zealand has taken to three of the world’s most beautiful and iconic surf destinations, bringing with it some of the world’s greatest surfers.

The Surfing Safari video features 2014 world champion Brazilian Gabriel Medina, three time world champion Australian Mick Fanning, American big wave legend Laird Hamilton, America’s blonde babe surfers Alana Blanchard and Anastasia Ashley, as well as surfing heroes from Japan and New Zealand.

GoPro cameras were used to film parts of the video in Malibu in the United States and Australia's own Gold Coast. Raglan and Piha in New Zealand and will play on board as the official safety briefing for Air New Zealand passengers.

The video is playful, light-hearted and engaging in ways most other airlines fail to achieve. The safety features are demonstrated on a beach, using deckchairs and surfboards as props, even throwing in a skim-boarding Bulldog for some fun.

Air New Zealand has made a name for itself across the globe for its innovative and humorous take on safety videos, as well as for their success in selling seats and driving tourism.

Their previous safety videos proved to be a hit, gaining over 12 million views for their first epic Hobbit-themed clip and boosting visits with Bear Grylls doing his thing about one of New Zealand’s Great Walks.

More unusual was the one of flight attendants wearing nothing but body paint while their ‘Safety in Paradise’ clip featuring Sports Illustrated swimsuit models, got slammed for objectifying women.

It seems like Air New Zealand has started a new trend, even other airlines have jumped on board, like Qantas using its cricketers and Olympic athletes and Turkish Airlines using football players from Manchester United.

Whatever they have going on here it seems to working! After watching their videos and being hyped into the spirit, how could you not want to jump online and book a ticket to wherever Air New Zealand can take you?
