Activision to Unveil Skylanders Creator and Imaginators

Activision Blizzard, Inc. ATVI is planning to launch a unique app for its users called Skylanders Creator. This app will allow players to create their own creatures.

Apart from this, the video game maker will also roll out a new console game “Skylanders Imaginators” on Oct 16. On Oct 28, Activision Blizzard Studios and streaming giant Netflix NFLX will together unveil a novel program called "Skylanders Academy."

As the company stated in a press release “This year, Skylanders is putting the power of creation in the hands of fans in ways never before imagined, and we can’t wait to see the millions of Imaginators that will be dreamed up by our Portal Masters around the world.”

The creatures that players create from Skylanders Creator are playable in the Skylanders Imaginators game. Moreover, users can also purchase 3D-printed Imaginator Figures, Imaginator T-Shirts and tradable Imaginator Cards of their creations from the Creator app itself.

These apart, the month-long Skylanders celebrations will include a host of contests for kids with custom 3D-printed Imaginator figures and movie tickets for the Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life up for grabs.

Such events (last month it hosted a Call of Duty XP event) allow Activision to place itself well to benefit from the spending windfall as the holiday season approaches. This is because the holiday season is the most important time of the year for video game stocks. In fact, most of the companies generate maximum sales in this quarter compared with the rest of the year. These companies go by the idea of ‘saving the best for the last’ and reserve their most important titles for launch in the final quarter of the year.

However, Activision is not the only company gearing up for this all important period. Peers like Electronic Arts Inc. EA and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. TTWO are also stepping up their efforts resulting in a cut-throat competition.
