As the parent of a trans child, those first months after he came out felt overwhelming and scary. Trying to understand what he was experiencing and how to best support him while educating myself on terms I’d never heard before, and also making a conscious effort to address him by a new name and pronouns to match the person he truly was on the inside… It was a roller coaster of emotions surrounded by a whirlwind of change at rapid speeds.

Part of being accepting and supporting parents to our trans kids includes having access and knowledge about the different products that they may or may not need to help them transition—whether socially or medically—throughout their youth. There are a myriad of products specifically made to assist transgender folx throughout their lives.

Paxsie's chest binders are also medically tested for safety with binding, which is a critical factor to parents.

6. Bye Gender

While currently only offering adult sizes, this is a store that gives back to the trans community, so some much-deserved credit is due. Bye Gender actively raise money for the trans community and donates those funds to trans folx who need housing assistance or employment aid as a result of their trans identity.

The Bye Gender Trans Survival Fund was established in 2016 (then named: Work Those Pecs) and has helped “about 50 applicants with money raised through the clothing line. The majority of the recipients are transgender people who have limited access to housing, or work due to disability, are unable to find employment due to their trans statues, or are unable to afford their HIV meds or hormones.”

7. Aunt Flow

Aunt Flow is intentional in its usage of gender-neutral terms for menstruation.
Aunt Flow is intentional in its usage of gender-neutral terms for menstruation.

While not technically a clothing retailer, Aunt Flow is a brand that's decidedly trans-inclusive. It's a company that's committed to inclusivity and ensuring that everyone has access to menstrual products. Aunt Flow is intentional with the language used on its website and packaging, particularly to be certain that gender does not define who does (or does not) menstruate. By eliminating terms like “feminine hygiene” and replacing them with inclusive, mindful words like “menstruator,” this company is one you can feel good about.

Not only is Aunt Flow committed to affirming all people, but it is also dedicated to transparency towards customers by giving the exact ingredients used in each product. And if that isn’t enough, it's also fiercely devoted to giving back by donating products to menstruators in need.
