In the dead of winter, thousands of movie buffs, filmmakers, and random Hollywood types swoop into Park City, UT, for the annual Sundance Film Festival.
This year’s festival begins screening on Thursday, and if you’re headed to Utah, be ready for crowds—a whopping 46,600 attendees descended on the area for the 2016 festivities.
And along with the next potential indie box-office smash, the spotlight will also shine on the real estate of the artsy ski town.
Sundance “puts us on the map as a hip place,” says broker and longtime Park City resident Carol Agle, of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. “We’re a sophisticated town that is also a lovely place to be.”
It’s also an expensive place to be, thanks to new, luxury accommodations on the market. “We have a wide range of newer places,” says Agle.
No matter the price, buyers have taken note. According to the Park City Board of Realtors®, the median sales price for single-family homes, condominiums, and vacant lots in the greater Park City area has increased 7.5% annually since 2012 and is up 14% over the previous 12 months.
“As the U.S. continues to offer some of the best ski destinations in the world and attract notable global clientele, homes in these areas are wise investments,” says Anthony Hitt, CEO of Engel & Völkers North America. “Park City in particular is a perfect pied-a-terre location for skiers and nonskiers alike, and I expect it’s going to keep getting more and more popular in years to come.”
Whether buying to live there year-round or with the thought of using their home as a seasonal getaway, buyers will benefit. Along with a winter wonderland, the area offers year-round vacation ideas, including open-air concerts, golfing, mountain biking, and hiking. Plus the “self-consciously cute” downtown offers fine dining, shopping, and nightlife on Main Street.
