5 Fast Facts: 2017 Ford GT

The second-generation Ford GT supercar debuts this year, and reportedly in June will be entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Designed to deliver optimum speed and exceptional handling, Ford’s most powerful mid-engine 2-seater is shaped like a teardrop for aerodynamics. Its carbon-fiber body is lightweight for maximum acceleration and speed.

To give you more insight, here are five fast facts about the 2017 Ford GT:

1) The 2017 Ford GT is powered by a turbocharged, 3.5-liter, EcoBoost V-6 engine that will generate at least 600 horsepower and, according to a senior Ford engineer, will have “the best power-to-weight ratio of any car in the market.” It is based on Ford’s Daytona race car.
2) Ford’s all-new GT supercar was first unveiled as a concept at the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit and was on display at this year’s show, too. According to Ford, more than 7,000 applications have been submitted to purchase one of the 500 cars that will be produced in the next two years with a suggested retail price of more than $400,000 per copy.
3) The carbon fiber and aluminum frame Ford GT features a rear spoiler that includes an air brake function. A rear wing can rise and tilt for extra drag and downforce when required. Brembo brake systems are standard and special carbon fiber wheels are planned.
4) The new GT has an “active” suspension that lowers with higher speed for stability and handling, Ford says. There’s also a button in the simple race car cockpit that raises the front end to navigate driveways and speed bumps.
5) A host of color and striping choices and carbon fiber trim will be available, which consumers can view at www.Ford.com/performance/gt/.
