Toyota Corolla, the world’s best-selling car, was last redesigned for 2014. For 2016, Corolla gets Toyota’s latest Entune infotainment system and a limited Special Edition S sport variant.
Here are 5 fast facts about the 2016 Toyota Corolla to research compact cars.
1) Two major benefits are fuel economy and extra rear legroom. The LE Eco Corolla variant achieves an estimated EPA rating on the highway of 42 mpg. Another plus is Corolla’s interior space, which offers 41.4 inches of rear legroom—as much as in a midsize car.
2) Four trim levels include the base L; most popular LE; LE Eco and S sport sedan trims. Each comes in Plus or Premium upgrades. The new limited Special Edition S slots between S Plus and S Premium.
3) Only 8,000 of the Special Edition S variants will be built. This new trim level includes a continuously variable (CVT-iS) transmission for fuel economy. The Special Edition S rides on 17-in. gloss black alloy wheels; features red and black interior treatment; push button start; Special Edition mats, and unique badging. Steering wheel paddle shifters and rear disc brakes are standard.
4) Corolla’s power comes from two versions of the 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 132 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft. of torque. The LE Eco variant features the same engine with variable timing to make more power: 140 horsepower. Base L, LE and S trims come with a 6-speed manual or optional 4-speed automatic.
5) Toyota’s Star Safety System with stability and traction control, ABS, electronic braking assist is standard. Although, Toyota’s advanced safety systems aren’t available on Corolla, the compact earns a top 5-star overall safety rating from the federal government and a “Good” designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)
