5 Fast Facts: 2016 Ford Escape

Ford’s SUVs are among the most popular in their segments. The third-generation 2016 Ford Escape compact SUV, redone in 2013 with European styling, is no exception. It’s available with the latest Sync 3 infotainment system, three engine choices, and features electronic steering and torque vectoring for better handling. A refreshed 2017 Ford Escape also debuts this year.

To help you research compact SUVs, here are five fast facts about the 2016 Ford Escape:

1) The 2016 Escape comes in three trim levels: S, SE, and Titanium. All are front-wheel drive (FWD) with optional 4-wheel drive (4WD). A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard. The basic S trim, powered by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 168 horsepower, now comes with a rearview camera.
2) Escape SE and Titanium trims are equipped with an turbocharged, EcoBoost 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 178 horsepower. A turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 240 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque is optional. Dual-zone climate control and power-adjustable seats are added on higher trims, along with an optional panoramic vista roof and next-generation Sync 3. The 2016 Escape Titanium includes Sync 3, plus power leather seats, bi-Xenon HID headlights, standard blind-spot information system, Sony audio system, and a hands-free liftgate, among features.
3) The EPA estimates that both of the Escape’s two EcoBoost turbocharged engines average 30 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg in city driving.
4) Three new option packages are available this year: a Cold Weather package with heated mirrors and seats; Chrome Appearance package with leather accents and 19-in. wheels; and a leather comfort package with heated seats. Two exterior colors are new for 2016: Shadow Black and Electric Spice.
5) Advanced safety features that are available include active park assist and a blind-spot information system with rear cross-traffic alert. The new hands-free liftgate opens by waving a foot under the rear bumper.
