Highly coveted list reveals Vancouver's top bars, restaurants and chefs as chosen by the readers
TORONTO , March 12, 2020 /CNW/ - Vancouver Free Press Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Central Corporation ("MediaCentral") (CSE:FLYY, FSE:3AT), today released the widely read Golden Plates issue of Georgia Straight (the "Straight"), celebrating the crème de la crème from Vancouver's culinary scene.
Now in its 23rd consecutive year, The Golden Plates 2020 is the ultimate guide to Vancouver's restaurant and bar scene, as determined by reader votes. This year's awards have been sponsored by the 18th annual Dine Out Vancouver Festival, which took place from January 17 to February 2 and brought together more than 300 of the best food and drink experiences within Metro Vancouver's vibrant scene.
"This is Vancouver's ultimate guide to the city's culinary scene. Searching through all the suggestions on the internet can be daunting, so the Straight makes it easier. All winners will live on straight.com for future reference, whether you're a local looking for fresh food ideas or if you're visiting Vancouver and need to navigate the numerous choices our city has to offer," said Charlie Smith , Editor. "On top of the guide, this issue is full of articles from how the Vancouver hotel restaurant scene has evolved over the years to be some of the best places to eat, to a piece about the industry's chef of the year and how women bartenders, such as Sabrine Dhaliwal of Juke Fried Chicken and Katie Ingram of L'abbatoir, are at the forefront of mixology in the city."
Championing the diversity within Vancouver , The Golden Plates include a plethora of food types, from "Best Mexican" to "Best Lebanese". Voters also selected the best places to eat in the various geographic areas of the city, including Chinatown, Gastown, South Granville and Yaletown.
Additionally, there are more specific categories from "Best Desserts" and "Best Juice Bar" through to "Best Pizzeria". Vancouverites also weighed in on the "Best Restaurant for Watching the Game", "Best Pre-Game Restaurant" and "Best Eatery with Live Music".
As well as picking local foodies' brains for their top choices in the city, the Straight also surveyed chefs and restaurant managers for their picks.
The Golden Plate 2020 winners include:
- Readers' Choice for Best Chef: David Hawksworth of Hawksworth Restaurant
- Best Hotel Restaurant: Hawksworth Restaurant
- Best Fine Dining: Hawksworth Restaurant
- Industry Experts' Choice for Best Chef: Roger Ma of Boulevard
