2016 Volkswagen CC, e-Golf, Golf R, Tiguan recalled to fix child locks
Volkswagen has announced a recall of nearly 5,700 vehicles from the 2016 model year to fix an issue with the cars' child safety locks. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem stems from components supplied by Kiekert CSSRO, which is based in the Czech Republic.
Ordinarily, child safety locks prevent passengers--typically kids in rear seats--from opening a vehicle's doors from the inside. In Volkswagen's case, however, vibrations can cause the safety locks to disengage. One potential source of such vibration is other vehicle doors closing.

If the safety locks aren't engaged, children might be able to open doors while a vehicle is in motion. If the kids aren't properly restrained, they might then fall out of the vehicle.
The recall affects the following makes and models:
- 2016 Volkswagen CC vehicles built between January 12, 2016 and February 3, 2016
- 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf vehicles built between November 25, 2015 and January 11, 2016
- 2016 Volkswagen Golf R vehicles built between November 25, 2015 and January 28, 2016
- 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan vehicles built between November 25, 2015 and January 28, 2016
The recall affects 5,658 vehicles registered in the U.S.

Volkswagen hasn't yet informed NHTSA when it will mail recall notices to owners. When it does, though, owners will be asked to take their vehicles to Volkswagen dealers, who will inspect and replace the child locks, as necessary.
