2016 Kia K900 Gets Minor Updates

Motor Authority

Kia’s K900 flagship sedan only arrived in local showrooms a year ago but has already seen a price reduction and now a round of updates, too. It’s no surprise considering year-to-date sales for the K900 total just 2,134 cars, but with the changes Kia has implemented it means the K900—already a great value—is now an even better buy.

For the 2016 model year, the K900 features an all-new V-6 engine. Unfortunately, the engine’s specs are the same as those of the unit it replaces. The new engine is a 3.8-liter V-6 that delivers 311 horsepower. Those seeking more power can opt for the 5.0-liter V-8 whose 420-hp output remains unchanged. The standard transmission is an eight-speed automatic with available paddle shifters, and drive is to the rear wheels only as there’s still no option for all-wheel drive.

There have also been some minor visual tweaks. There are new wheel designs (18-inch for V-6 models and 19-in for the V-8) as well as a revised front grille plus a revised rear-end design with tweaks made to the chrome trim, exhaust pipes, tail lights and bumper.

The 2016 K900 comes in three trim levels: V6 Premium, V6 Luxury and V8 Luxury. Even the base model is well-equipped, coming standard with items such as navigation, leather trim and a panoramic sunroof. The navigation system is a new design that benefits from a 9.2-inch touchscreen display. This display is also used for Kia’s UVO infotainment system which in its latest form allows you to remotely access the car via a smartphone app.

But the list of tech updates don’t end there. Kia has also added a smart trunk lid that automatically opens when the key fob is sensed near it for more than three seconds. On top of this, there is an autonomous braking system that can bring the car to a full stop in emergency situations.

Pricing for the 2016 K900 hasn’t been mentioned but expect it to match or come close to the $55,400 (with $900 destination) starting price of the 2015 model.
