2015 Land Rover LR4 Recalled To Fix To Software Flaw Affecting Stability, Traction, More

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling select Land Rover LR4 SUVs from the 2015 model year. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of those vehicles suffer from a software flaw that could make them harder to control and increase the risk of accidents. 

The flaw resides in the code associated with the LR4's Anti-Lock Braking system. Unfortunately, that's not the only area of the vehicle affected: the software glitch can disable the SUV's Dynamic Stability Control, Roll Stability Control, Traction Control, and Hill Decent Control. Should that happen, the LR4 could become markedly more difficult to maneuver, upping the risk of a crash.

(Interestingly, this problem has been linked to a component manufactured by Bosch, which is currently having to replace a lot of fuel pumps for a very different flaw.)

If your LR4's software encounters trouble, you'll notice a "Suspension Fault" notice on the instrument cluster and an amber warning light. Though some software issues we've seen can be cleared by restarting a vehicle, this one will persist until the LR4 is taken to a dealership. 

The recall affects 2015 LR4 models manufactured between August 19, 2014 and February 9, 2015. All told, that amounts to 2,687 vehicles registered in the U.S.

Land Rover says that it will begin notifying owners about the recall no later than June 5 of this year. After receiving a notice by mail, owners will be able to take their vehicles to a Land Rover dealer, who will update the ABS software at no charge.
