2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ Recalled Due To Faulty Seat Welds

The latest Lincoln MKZ and a handful of other Ford products are involved in a new recall. The reason is due to sub-standard weld joints that may cause the front seats to become loose or start to lean, which for the driver could lead to a loss of vehicle control.

The joints in question are those that attach the seat back recliner mechanism to the seat frame. Because they feature sub-standard welds, they may have insufficient strength to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems."

The affected vehicles are listed below:

• 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ sedans manufactured August 15, 2012, through September 10, 2013

• 2013-2014 Ford Fusion sedans manufactured August 15, 2012, through September 10, 2013

• 2013-2014 Ford Escape crossovers manufactured June 5, 2012, through August 12, 2013

• 2013-2014 Ford C-Max MPVs manufactured July 23, 2012, through May 28, 2013

According to Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F], there are 43,135 vehicles affected in the U.S. alone.

Ford is in the process of notifying owners of the recalled cars. The remedy requires dealers to replace the seatback, a service they will offer free of charge.
