California-based life insurance company Pacific Life was rated the least stressful, at 23.9%.

In addition to great pay and satisfying work, top companies offer working conditions that don't make their employees want to yank their hair out.

We recently released our second annual list of the 50 Best Employers In America, based on exclusive data from PayScale. The companies that made this list know the value of a stress-free environment — or as close to stress-free as it can get, anyway — as a means of producing happy workers.

Companies were rated on job stress based on a survey that asked employees, " How stressful is your job/work environment?” The higher percentage of employees who responded with "My Job Is Relaxing" or "Not Stressful," the lower the stress. C ompanies considered for this list were chosen from the complete 2012 Fortune 500 list, not just our list of the 50 Best Employers. You can find the full methodology here .
