The Lamborghini story as we know it is mostly one of mid-engined cars with roaring V-12s and wedge-like shapes. That all started with the Miura, a sports car released in 1966. Two years earlier, the brand started its production car business with an elegant grand tourer called the 350 GT. A shining example of that line, the 12th Lamborghini ever built, is set to be auctioned next month.

That is the 12th of around 120 350 GT models, one of three aluminum-bodied cars finished in this particular shade of blue. Considerable work in Virginia and Italy took place in two waves from 2017 to 2023, totaling $175,000 in invoices. The result is a car that looks absolutely immaculate, a grand tourer that fits in a canon of Italian legends of the early 1960s alongside Ferraris and Maseratis.

Other than its V-12, the 350 GT is nothing like the Diablos and Countaches of the world. If the brand's early history went another direction, this is the flagship of all Lamborghinis and a whole line of glamorous grand tourers could have followed the 350 GT and its successors. The brand instead decided to focus on the performance bona fides of the Miura, birthing a long line of mid-engined V-12 supercars that continues all the way to today's stunning Revuelto. Lamborghini GTs may return as EVs, like the Lanzador concept, in the near future, but until then, the 350 GT is as elegant as a Lamborghini gets.

This specific 350 GT is set to go to auction in Miami on March 1-2. RM Sotheby's projects a final sale price of between $600,000 and $700,000, less than half the final sale price of a Miura the group sold last year.
