Serhat Gumrukcu, a 39-year-old Turkish citizen, appeared in U.S. District Court in Burlington, where he entered the plea to a charge of interstate murder for hire during a brief hearing before Judge Geoffrey Crawford. FRANKFURT (Reuters) -Germany will subsidise power bills next year by paying just under 13 billion euros ($12.8 billion) towards the usage fees charged by the four high-voltage transmission grid companies (TSOs), economy minister Robert Habeck said on Wednesday. The intervention stabilises the fees, which otherwise would have risen threefold given runaway wholesale power prices and rising operational costs for the TSOs, Habeck said. "We are now making sure that these cost increases are absorbed, thereby preventing an additional burden for industrial companies, small and medium-sized businesses and consumers," he said.
Marlboro maker Philip Morris has offered concessions to address EU antitrust concerns over its $16 billion bid for tobacco and nicotine products maker Swedish Match, a European Commission filing showed on Wednesday. The EU competition enforcer did not provide details of the concessions in line with its policy. The Commission extended its deadline for a decision to Oct. 25 from Oct. 11.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -FedEx Express pilots and management on Wednesday said they have jointly filed for federal mediation with the National Mediation Board for assistance with contract negotiations that began in May 2021. The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) said the filing is necessary to seek expedited mediation under the Railway Labor Act. More than 100 off-duty FedEx pilots held an informational picket in New York last week.

A federal judge in Chicago dismissed the 2020 lawsuit in a written order last week, but gave the plaintiffs until Oct. 21 to file an amended complaint. The plaintiffs claim McDonald's has not offered profitable restaurant locations and growth opportunities to Black franchisees that were on the same terms as white franchisees, despite its public commitment to diversity and Black entrepreneurship.
