The excitement around electric vehicle stocks is palpable. From Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) at a $76 billion market cap with no revenue to Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) breaching a $1.1 trillion market cap when it was valued under $100 billion less than three years ago, many investors are bullish on the opportunity in electric vehicles. The industry is growing quickly, up 26% year over year from 2020, and is going after a gigantic market opportunity in the worldwide car market.

    WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) said it was issuing a national emergency declaration to waive hours-of-service requirements for commercial vehicle drivers transporting baby formula ingredients and packaging. The order comes in the wake of a product recall by top baby formula maker Abbott Laboratories, and the closing of its manufacturing plant in Sturgis, Michigan during an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that has created one of the biggest infant formula shortages in recent history for U.S. families. The FMCSA order includes, but is not limited to, whey, casein, corn syrup and hydrolyzed protein, and containers and packaging for baby formula.

    BMW is exploring new investments in solar, geothermal and hydrogen energy to lower its dependence on natural gas, the carmaker's production chief told Reuters on Monday, warning an embargo on Russian gas would bring the industry to a standstill. The carmaker, which relied on natural gas for 54% of its energy consumption in 2021, is examining where it can add solar panels to its plants and developing plans with local authorities to transport hydrogen to its plant in Leipzig, Germany. "Hydrogen is very well-suited to lower or even fully compensate for gas demand," Milan Nedeljkovic said.

    A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday said the Securities and Exchange Commission can proceed with its overhaul of the way essential stock market data is collected and disseminated, striking a blow to exchanges that earn revenue from the data and had opposed the plan. The SEC in 2020 approved new rules governing public data feeds that it said would also improve transparency and address inefficiencies in the collection and dissemination of the data, following years of complaints by brokers that the exchanges that control the data are conflicted in their role. Nasdaq Inc, Intercontinental Exchange Inc's NYSE unit, and Cboe Global Markets, opposed the plan, which allows firms other than the exchanges to develop and sell data products based on data obtained from the exchanges.

    The U.S. Federal Reserve may be forced to rethink its hawkish stance as it hikes interest rates in the face of a slowing economy and deteriorating market fundamentals, Guggenheim Partners' Global Chief Investment Officer Scott Minerd said on Tuesday. "The neutral rate is probably lower than where the Fed thinks it is ... by June when the Fed funds rate is expected to be about 1.75%, any tightening beyond that would be restrictive," Minerd said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland. In their efforts to bring inflation under control, policymakers have underestimated the impacts of shrinking the central bank's balance sheet while simultaneously hiking rates, he told the Reuters Global Markets Forum, adding that market participants were also underestimating these risks.
