Walmart ends credit card partnership with Capital One, but shoppers can still use their cards

Walmart has ended a partnership with Capital One that made the banking company the exclusive issuer of Walmart’s consumer credit cards. The companies said card-holders can still use their Capital One Walmart Rewards cards, which will continue to accrue rewards unless customers are notified of a change. Capital One will retain ownership and servicing of the credit card accounts.

Walmart and Capital One End Credit-Card Partnership

Capital One Financial will no longer be issuing Walmart’s branded credit cards, the companies said Friday. The move comes a little over a year since Walmart  sued the card issuer to sever the partnership, arguing Capital One failed to meet certain terms of their contract. The bank had disputed the retailer’s authority to terminate the relationship early, but a federal judge ruled in favor of Walmart earlier this year.

Walmart, Capital One end consumer credit card agreement

The world's largest retailer had accused Capital One of being too slow in updating transactions in cardholders' accounts and failing to promptly replace lost cards. Walmart had tied up with Capital One in 2018 after ending its two-decade long partnership with Synchrony Financial. Capital One started issuing the store-branded credit cards from 2019.
