| The investment seeks income exempt from federal income tax, consistent with preservation of capital. The fund normally invests at least 80% of assets in municipal securities or other investments with similar economic characteristics, the income from which is exempt from regular federal income tax. It focuses primarily on intermediate- and long-term municipal securities that have remaining maturities at the time of purchase of from three to more than 30 years. The fund can invest up to 20% of assets in bonds rated below investment grade or in unrated securities determined to be of equivalent quality by the manager. |
