It operates in five segments: Senior Managed CareMedicare Advantage, Senior Market Health Insurance, Specialty Health Insurance, Life Insurance and Annuity, and Senior Administrative Services. The Senior Managed CareMedicare Advantage segment provides health care benefit plans. The Senior Market Health Insurance segment's products include prescription drug benefit plans for seniors; Medicare Supplement plans, which provide supplemental coverage for various medical expenses, such as deductibles and coinsurance; Medicare Select policies in conjunction with hospitals; and senior health products, which include acute recovery care, senior dental, and hospital indemnity products. The Specialty Health Insurance segment offers fixed benefit accident, sickness disability, and other health insurance products to the self-employed market in the United States. The Life Insurance and Annuity segment provides final expense life insurance and asset accumulation life insurance products. The Senior Administrative Services segment provides outsourcing services that support insurance and noninsurance products for the senior market. Its services include policy underwriting and issuance, policy billing and collection, telephone verification, policyholder services, claims adjudication and payment, clinical case management, and care assessment referral to healthcare facilities. The company distributes its insurance and managed care products through its career agency system and a direct sales force. It has strategic alliance with PharmaCare Management Services, Inc. The company was founded in 1981. It was formerly known as Universal American Financial Corp. and changed its name to Universal American Corp. in November 2007. Universal American Corp. is headquartered in Rye Brook, New York. |
